As you would know if you follow me on instagram but my personal life the last few months has been pretty tough.

A few months ago I was due to be married but instead I had to postpone my wedding as I lost my dad to Cancer the same month and my life as it was changed forever.

These photos were taken maybe 2 weeks after my dad had gone..we are in Perth’s beautiful south west staying in my parents beautiful beach home, my dads favourite place to be. It was a really hard week being down there for the first time without him. My fiancée encouraged me to start taking photos for the blog again and I had bought this beautiful jumpsuit for the Maldives to wear on our Honeymoon so he said lets go exploring and take some photos.

I didn’t’ feel like being in any photos or getting out of my pjs, but as I have read grief is hard to explain but “it is a feeling which goes to the very core of your being and effects our bodies, minds and spirits”

When I look back at these photos they are almost symbolic to me, I can see that I had changed already and now I have learnt that bereavement changes us all in some way.

I find being near the ocean healing, being still, quiet and breathing in fresh air and hearing the waves lap against the shore.

I read a passage the other day which I see so fitting to this post as I look over the water. Imagine dad was standing with me and holding my hand and I need to let his hand go to cross over the horizon, with tears I let his hand go, he has been honoured and he is safe and I will cross the same horizon when my time comes.

I hope to make small changes to this blog as I myself have changed..I feel I may write more words sometimes and share with you this journey I am on, I feel this blog needs more soul and hopefully to share others stories too.

If anything I hope my words have some comfort for those who have lost.. but don’t worry I will still be wearing cool outfits 😉

Thankyou to my instagram community for all your love, support and words these past few months.

Biggest Thankyou to my fiancée Sam who continues to capture beautiful images and who pushes me to be the best person I can be and continue with this blog..I could do nothing without you and I cant wait to marry you soon.

I will leave you with this quote

“Everything that happens to you has the potential to deepen you” – eight ten ten blog

Last weekend I celebrated my hens night. I know usually the tradition is these days the bridesmaids plan the whole event by themselves but all I did was give my BM’s a theme ‘festival inspired’ and being my best friends who know me too well they planned the best night ever.

We stepped well away from all things typically ‘hens night’ no ‘bridesmaid’/ ‘bride’ hot pink sash’s – just awesome VIP lanyards, no games, straws, pictures involving mens private parts ect.

Instead we played one game only…they pre video’d my husband to be and asked him questions like ‘what his favourite food is?….what was our first date?’ then on the night they asked me the question first and then played the video of his answer and if wrong I had to have a jelly shot! it was fun and easy and having him on the video made it alot more fun too!

We held it in my brothers back yard and the girls set up the different area’s. The handmade giant teepee was a real highlight at different stages of the night everyone was hanging out in there…big ups to my best friend loz who made it in Perth’s 35 degree heat in 2 hours your amazing!!!!. We also had a face painting station with inspiration pictures so at different stages of the night you could go with a friend and decorate your faces. We had a sheesha area next to the big peace sign made by my other clever bestie vikki, we had different flavours going during the night. For music my best friend Jemima put together the best dj mix ever.

My mum, sister n law and auntie made all the nibbly food and we had slushie machines and wine, champagne to drink. Of course we finished the night with a special show from a fireman which gave everybody a laugh..you only get married once right!?!?

The best thing about my hens night when I look back was it was so relaxed and everyone was just hanging out in the different area’s…there was no pressure to go out and often I think if you do go out you are stuck waiting in lines and lose lots of the party.

Thankyou again to all my amazing bridesmaids..I had the best night ever!

As some of you are aware if you follow me on instagram I will be getting married in a couple of weeks!! I have been dying to show you my invitation set and now that our guests have all got theirs I can!!.

By coincidence I stumbled across the talented Lisa of Ivyinvite on instagram and instantly fell in love with her work. I always thought I would make my own invites as I always had a vision of what I wanted…but I’m totally not crafty and terrible on the computer so thats when Lisa came to my rescue.

My fiancee didn’t want to spend alot of money on invites as he thought their were more important things for the wedding day that we could spend the money on but I of course totally disagreed. Dont get me wrong I didnt want to spend a fortune but they were just as important to me as anything else. I’m a sucker for the way things look and details.

The wedding invite to me should be a little taste of whats to come. When your guests open it they should feel something rather than ‘just another invite’. I know we have achieved this with our own invites as many of my friends text me the day they arrived and said they just didnt want to even open it because it looked so nice wrapped in its gold string with its feather!! and thats exactly the reaction I wanted and I knew our money was well spent.

Lisa was a dream to work with and did everything I asked and more (even when I would make her change one word after our 12th final edit!!) she was able to take my vision and bring it to life. I hope this inspires the brides to be out there even if your DIYing or going to get it designed. Be true to your style and think of your wedding details and dont forget to add a little something special – trust me it’ll be one invite your friends will remember!.

Finally I’ve updated the blog!. And my first post for the year is this shoot I did for local label ruestiic. I had so much fun on a road trip with Jillian & Kiri (ruestiic designers) and photographer Courts Holloway. Usually only my partner shoots me so I was worried of how they would turn out!!! although I seem photogenic I can be camera shy (hence always my head down photos!!!)..but the girls made me feel SO relaxed like I was just hanging out in a little beach town.

I feel like wearing Ruestiic allows you to feel like two girls….a wild and free girl who surfs and wears leather and biker boots at night while she parties till sunrise with her boyfriend in a band and then a softer bohemian girl who spends time walking through fields, listening to music, reading, cooking and looking after her family.

I love the basic concepts of ruestiic and will forever. Thanks for letting me be part of your team girls
